Williams & Sharp Family History

Revised September 29, 2023

For this section, I began with my interpretation of the Williams-Sharp family bible which I have now. And then, a significant note of gratitude goes out to Scott K. Williams of Florissant MO, for he performed years of work and added tremendously to the wealth of knowledge of the Williams clan. By his reckoning, among all the different Williams families in the U.S., ours is a part of "DNA Group 12," i.e. the descendants of John Williams, born in Wales in 1679 and migrated to the Colonies in the 1690's. (See {6} John Williams below)."Scott's web site is no longer on the Internet, at least that I can find, so I have captured one of his last occurrences and show it here.

Also, it should be noted that one of the first counties created in the Colony of Virginia, in 1656, was Rappahannock which was later divided in 1692 into Essex and Richmond, the latter not to be confused with the city of Richmond formed in 1737. And that "old" Rappahannock County should not be confused with the "new" Rappahannock County much further inland created in 1833. (In fact, Virginia had so many county line and name changes from 1607 to the mid-1700's, one could easily be born in one county, marry in another and die in yet another and never move from the same house!) Also, some of these ancestors lived in early New York and parts of Connecticut and Delaware which was founded in the early 1600's by the Dutch as New Netherland Colony, which I abbreviate as NN below. It was taken over by the British in 1664 and divided into New York, Connecticut and Delaware. I should add that the Crown Colony of Carolina was split into North and South Carolina in 1712. And the southern part of Carolina became part of the Colony of Georgia in 1732. Also, in what became Massachusetts Colony in 1691, several immigrants settled in the Plymouth Colony.

I have used a style that I hope can be followed significantly better than the Bible inscriptions. In addition to births, deaths and marriages, I have added some descriptions of certain family mem-bers who attained some level of fame or accomplishment. If persons were/are known by other than their first name, I have indicated by underlining or quotations, wherever I could discover this, such as in bible entries or by personal recollection.

In the descriptions below, the leading number in curly braces - {} - preceding each entry is my arbitrary Generation Number (from older to younger) in order to help keep the various generations straight. In this study I began with {1} herein to align this study with that of the other families. Any listed child who appears later as a member of the next generation will simply have the years of birth & death and a reference to the next generation such that all pertinent information about that individual is in one place. Also, "child of", "daughter of" and "son of" are shortened to "c/o", "d/o" and "s/o" and born, married and died are abbreviated to b. m. and d. I use the tilde (~) to indicate "circa," the modern-day 2-character postal code for American states and colonies, incl. for includes or including and Cty, is used for county.
